Becker-Antriebe GmbH was awarded a coveted Gold R+T Innovation Award on Sunday before the start of R+T in Stuttgart – the world's leading trade fair for roller shutters, doors/gates and sun shading systems. The company was honoured with this prestigious award for its pioneering generation of drives for textile smoke curtains and fire protection closures in the “drives and control systems for doors” product category.

Innovative generation of drives

The innovative generation of drives from Becker stands out due to its electronic end switches and absolute encoders integrated into the tubular drive. This pioneering technology sets new standards and makes textile fire protection systems fit for the future – both from a technical perspective and also with respect to their compliance with applicable standards. The newly developed absolute encoder can precisely set the curtain or closure to any position, even in the event of an emergency or loss of power, without the drive having to complete a reference run.

An especially impressive feature is the ability to freely move the curtain or closure to any intermediate position in the event of an emergency to, for example, provide people with a safe escape route. The RS485 interface guarantees the secure transmission of data to the control unit and allows users to precisely evaluate the positional data. In combination with an approved control system, the end switch complies with performance level (d), which further improves the safety of the entire system.

The electronic end switches also enable users to conveniently program the end positions using the control unit, without having to manually set the motor head. The self-closing capability of the drives and their ability to control the closing speed make fire protection solutions even safer.
